Duvets and pillows made of down and feathers with the “Swiss Guaranty VSB” label are characterised by the highest quality. This is why they carry the exclusive “Swiss Guaranty VSB” seal of quality and are provided with an individual identification number.
Bedding with the “Swiss Guaranty VSB” seal of quality can be purchased from specialist shops or from major distributors and department stores as well as via mail order.
- This can only be determined through a professional check. “Swiss Guaranty VSB” is the only Swiss seal of quality that provides transparent information about the quality characteristics. Keep this in mind next time you buy new bedding.
The down and feathers mainly come from countries where geese and ducks are bred for meat production. These are in Eastern Europe and France in particular.
The Swiss Bedding Manufacturer’s Association (VSB) strictly rejects any form of live plucking. It was the first association in the world to declare the complete renouncement of live plucking in its statutes, as well as in the contracts between VSB member companies and their suppliers in 2001.
Duvets and pillows are subjected to heavy wear and tear night after night. Duvets should therefore be cleaned or, depending on their condition, replaced after 3 to 5 years at the latest. We recommend replacing pillows after 3 years at the latest because the feathers quickly lose their support strength. You can place used down duvets or feather pillows in a clean plastic bag in a used clothing collection container near you, hand them over in a street collection or return them to the manufacturer. They are then sorted and recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
It may occasionally be the case that fine down and feather particles slip through the light material. This does not affect the volume of your bedding. If a duvet loses a lot of down or a pillow loses lots of feathers, return it to the place where you purchased it.
Washable pillows and duvets with relevant laundry symbols on the care label can be washed at temperatures of up to 60°C. It is important to use a pH-neutral liquid mild detergent. Special detergents are available from specialist shops. Note: It is essential to avoid fabric softener.
You should never wash duvets and pillows that are not expressly designated as washable. Any non-washable duvets should be professionally cleaned after 3 to 5 years. It is not worth cleaning pillows because it is cheaper to buy new ones.
Duvets with the quality seal can be taken to specialist shops for cleaning.
The cost varies depending on the quality of the feathers and down as well as the refill quantity. Take your duvet to a specialist shop and they will be able to give you a quotation. Complete duvet cleaning includes:
- Emptying the duvet
- Washing, drying and disinfecting the contents in professional facilities
- Replacing defective down / feathers with new material and putting the filling in a new cover.

You can purchase oversized or tailor-made duvets from specialist shops. They pass on the size you require to a bedding manufacturer.
Double duvets consist of two individual duvets that can be buttoned together in the cold season. The parts of these seasonal duvets are filled differently, ideally 1/3 and 2/3. The light one is used in summer, and one with more filling in spring and autumn. In winter you can button the two pieces together so you have the right duvet for every season.
We recommend storing the duvets and pillows in an air-permeable cover. If the down and feather products are “vacuum-packed” for a long time, some of the filling power of the down and feathers will certainly be lost. However, it is important that the bedding is completely dry before being “vacuum-packed” – otherwise mould will develop and the bedding will have an unpleasant odour.
